The Mysterons/
Mars 2068
"The finger in on the trigger, about to unleash a force with terrible powers,
beyond the comprehension of Man. This force we shall know as 'The Mysterons'.
"This man will be our hero, for fate will make him indestructible. His name -
Captain Scarlet.
"This is the trigger - a Martian Exploration Vehicle. Inside; three men from Earth."
Whilst searching for the source of several transmissions, the crew of the
Zero-X Martian Exploration Vehicle, under the command of Captain Black, find an extraordinary
complex of luminescent buildings. Captain Black mistakes a viewing device that turns
towards the MEV as a weapon and destroys the base. However, the base rebuilds itself before their
eyes, and a grating voice echoes in the cockpit:
EARTHMEN,
WE ARE PEACEFUL BEINGS AND YOU HAVE TRIED TO DESTROY US, BUT YOU CANNOT
SUCCEED. YOU AND YOUR PEOPLE WILL PAY FOR THIS ACT OF AGGRESSION. THIS
IS THE VOICE OF THE MYSTERONS. WE KNOW THAT YOU CAN HEAR US, EARTHMEN. OUR
WILL BE SLOW BUT NONETHELESS EFFECTIVE. IT WILL MEAN THE ULTIMATE DESTRUCTION
OF LIFE ON EARTH. IT WILL BE USELESS FOR YOU TO RESIST, FOR WE HAVE
DISCOVERED THE SECRET OF REVERSING MATTER, AS YOU HAVE JUST WITNESSED. ONE
OF YOU WILL BE UNDER OUR CONTROL. YOU WILL BE INSTRUMENTAL IN AVENGING THE
MYSTERONS. OUR FIRST ACT OF RETALIATION WILL BE TO ASSASSINATE YOUR
WORLD PRESIDENT.
When the Zero-X returns to Earth, Captain Black vanishes without a trace.
Meanwhile, Captain Brown is placed in command of the taskforce assigned to protecting the World
President. Whilst he and his field partner, Captain Scarlet, discuss the Mysteron threat, they
lose control of their car and crash into a ravine. Moments later, Captain Scarlet appears, unhurt,
and drags a red-booted body away from the wreckage of the car and hides it.
Captain Brown escorts the World President to a Maximum Security Building, where they will stay in
a secure bunker until the danger to the President's life passes. Before they have time to settle
in, Captain Brown explodes, causing the whole building to collapse. The WP reacts quickly enough
to activate an escape mechanism that whisks him away from the explosion.
On Cloudbase, Colonel White shows the WP video footage of the events in the MSB before turning him
over to Captain Scarlet's care. Scarlet promptly boards a plane to take the WP to Spectrum London.
Just after Scarlet and the WP leave Cloudbase, Lieutenant Green receives a report from Captain
Ochre, who has discovered the body of Captain Brown at the scene of the car crash. Colonel White
realises that something must have happened to Brown at the scene of the accident, causing him to
become a Mysteron agent. Green points out that Scarlet was also involved in the accident. White
immediately orders Scarlet to return to Cloudbase.
Scarlet ignores Colonel White's commands and continues on his course. When Destiny Angel makes a
dummy attack on his aircraft, he ejects both himself and the WP from the plane. Once landed, he
steals a car and sets off towards London on the M21.
Colonel White orders Captain Blue, who is in the UK, to chase Captain Scarlet using a Spectrum
Pursuit Vehicle, whilst the Angels continue with their aerial surveillance. The Angels muse that
there are only two routes that Scarlet can take from the M21 - one is a dead end that will trap
him on the London Car Vu. Rhapsody Angel destroys the bridge leading to the second route, forcing
Scarlet to climb the Car Vu.
With Scarlet cornered, Colonel White orders Spectrum helicopter A-42 to assist Captain Blue in the
apprehension of Scarlet. However, the Mysterons already have control of the helicopter, and it
opens fire on Captain Blue, who narrowly escapes before the Angels destroy the helicopter, which
crashes into the tower.
Scarlet and the WP are precariously positioned in a metal frame that extends from the deck of the
Car Vu. Blue attempts to talk Scarlet down, but it he is shot at. In self defense, he shoots
Scarlet, who falls 800 feet to the ground. Blue manages to air-lift the WP out before the Car Vu
collapses.
Back on Cloudbase, everyone is shocked to find that the Mysteron clone of Captain Scarlet is
healing the fatal injuries sustained at the Car Vu and reviving. Even more extraordinary is the
fact that this is no longer a Mysteron agent, but Captain Scarlet himself! Having retained the
Mysteron healing ability that leaves him virtually indestructible, Scarlet could become Spectrum's
best weapon against the Mysterons in the continuing war...
